Neil Back MBE was part of the victorious 2003 England Rugby World Cup squad in Australia, the only North Hemisphere side to lift the trophy since it’s inception.

Since his retirement, Neil has coached at Leicester Tigers and Edinburgh and is not a successful business man and after dinner speaker.

It’s Cake X! Whoop! And to celebrate we have one of the most well-respected journalists in World football, Jonathan Northcroft taking to the stage with marketing expert Tim Elliott.

Jonathan Northcroft is Football Correspondent of The Sunday Times and a regular contributor to BBC Radio 5 live football programmes and Sky Sunday Supplement guest. An award-winning journalist, his first book, Fearless: The Amazing Underdog Story of Leicester City, the Greatest Miracle in Sports History, was published in September.

Jonathan grew up in the north east of Scotland with ludicrously good timing for a prospective football writer: his team, Aberdeen, were conquering Europe under Sir Alex Ferguson. He studied Literature at Edinburgh University and was a news reporter at the Herald in Glasgow, then a sports writer for Scotland on Sunday before joining The Sunday Times as Scottish Football Correspondent in 1998.

Since 2001 he has been reporting on the Premier League and he became the newspaper’s Football Correspondent in 2009. He moved to Leicester with his wife and two young daughters in March 2016.

Raffaele Russo grew up in Naples and in Lewisham in SE London at a time when the social media craze had just begun and the first successful online businesses were being launched.  An online business importing brands which were yet to outlet in the uk. Whilst he was at university he got into nightclub promotion and marketing.

Eight years on, Raffaele owns and runs Loc8me – a business that lets over 700 properties in Loughborough, Hull and Lincoln.  He has launched Peter and That’s Enough – an authentic Italian pizzeria. There big plans to expand this into a chain of pizzerias in the Midlands. In the past 3 years Raffaele has also launched a gym and a few other failed projects, as well as helping some social enterprise companies.

Raffaele runs his businesses with a team of young people using the technologies they have grown up with, marketing to a young audience via social media platforms.  At Loc8me Raffaele has finally achieved a paperless agency with all marketing being done through social media providing customers and staff with transparent communications. Raffaele employs two social media employees in his businesses and is committed to challenging all established management practices and building new approaches that work for him and his team.

His ethos, is work hard, get up early, do it with love and intensity, you get out what you put in. And he 100% puts everything in.

Sam is a track and field Paralympic athlete for Great Britain, competing in the F35 Shot Put. After making his international debut in the sprint events at London 2012 and graduating from Loughborough University with first class honours, he switched disciplines to the throws events. He currently holds the British record and won his first international medal at the 2016 IPC Athletics European Championships in Grosetto, Italy.

Simon Lyons

Simon formed Version 22 as a platform to get creative solutions to real problems into the hands of people everywhere. His first product Geco Hub was launched through the crowd-funding site Kickstarter in 2014. Since then he’s going from strength to strength, launching his second product Nimble in early 2015.

Version 22 is currently based at The Studio, graduate commercialisation hub at Loughborough University, which has helped him to setup his business and provided office space, business training and support with product development and prototyping.

Paul Ince is a social media and CRM consultant, based in Loughborough University’s Innovation Centre. He specialises in helping businesses use the technical tools of social media to meet core business objectives. Alongside his co-founders, he has developed two social media tools, Thryyve and Spaniel. No one taught Paul how to run a business; he wishes Cake had been around beforehand.

Taking to the stage will be 2 ex Loughborough University graduates Matt Reeves (Leicester City FC) and Rowan Williams (Seymourpowell) who are working at the highest level in their respective fields, Football and Product Design. It’s going to be mega 🙂

Matt Reeves

Matt is responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of sports science services at Leicester City. His main objectives surround reducing injury occurrence, whilst improving physical preparation, athletic development and overall performance.

His belief is that transparency of such information is key in helping to create a hardworking culture whereby the players set high standards for themselves and their teammates. With this said, he uses innovative methods of feedback to capture the attention, communicate appropriately and in turn affect the behaviour.

As a Sport and Exercise Science graduate from Loughborough University, his career has included an 18 month spell at Hull City sandwiched between two periods at Leicester. Aside from his work at the club, he has spent the past two seasons providing support to the England U19/ U20s on International camps.

Taking to the stage first will be Cake co-organiser and local branding expert Ryan McNamara who will be helping you find what your brand is uniquely able to do that others can’t. After Ryan, Olympic sports commentator, presenter & producer Dave Rogers will take the mic, so be prepared for laughter, inspiration, profanity and crowd participation, he’s one of a kind.

Ryan is the Creative Director of 5or6, a specialist web design & branding consultancy based in Loughborough, who help companies across the globe tell their brand story.

Along with working at 5or6 Ryan is also the web lead at the Arizona based athlete & coach training centre ALTIS, the co-organiser of Cake & has previously represented England as a high hurdler.

At Cake Ryan is going to talk about finding what is uniquely yours, and using your skills, experiences and beliefs to shape your company.

Dave is a Sports Commentator, Presenter & Producer.

In the last 3 years, he has commentated on over 20 sports around the world, including work at the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Invictus Games, European Games, NFL, Premier League Football, Rugby World Cup and lots more.

Dave teaches as part of a Sports Events project at Loughborough University, and has trained commentators and Audio Describers for the Commonwealth Games, Rugby World Cup, as well as Leicester City, Nottingham Forest, Crawley Town & Portsmouth Football Clubs.

He is also a terrible footballer, but would probably beat you at golf.

Pete Mosley

Pete writes, speaks and blogs extensively about the business of creativity – drawing on thirty years of experience of working in the creative sector. He is business editor/expert for craft&design magazine and contributes to a number of other national and international websites and print magazines.

His first book – ‘Make Your Creativity Pay – How to earn your living from the things you love to do’, was published in July 2011.

The second – ‘The Art of Shouting Quietly – a guide to self-promotion for introverts and other quiet souls’, was published spring 2015.

He delivers talks and workshops on Creativity, Business & Professional Development for universities, businesses and creative organisations.
Pete also coaches creative professionals who are starting or developing their own creative businesses on a one-to-one basis.


Andrew Cope Profile Picture

Andrew Cope

Andy Cope describes himself as a qualified teacher, author, happiness expert and learning junkie. He has spent the last 10 years studying positive psychology, happiness & flourishing, culminating in a Loughborough University PhD thesis. Andy appreciates that his ‘Dr of Happiness’ label is terribly cheesy but it affords him an important media platform. In times of rising depression and an epidemic of ‘busyness’, Andy believes there has never been a more appropriate time to raise the happiness agenda.

His research feeds into a training course called ‘The Art of Being Brilliant’ which has been delivered to rave reviews all over the world. Andy is lucky enough to work with some very large businesses, including Microsoft, DHL, Pirelli, Pfizer, Hewlett Packard, Astra Zeneca and IKEA. Recently, he has tailored his workshops to meet the needs of children and teachers and now delivers to audiences from age 8 upwards!

Andy is also a best-selling author. He has written ‘The Art of Being Brilliant’, ‘Be Brilliant Everyday’ and ‘The Art of Being a Brilliant Teenager’ (Capstone). He has also penned a series for Crown House, aimed at teachers, and is currently working on two books for Hodder. Andy also moonlights as a children’s author. ‘Spy Dog’ (Puffin) won the Redhouse Children’s Book of the Year and the series has sold in excess of a million copies worldwide. Andy bigs himself up by telling everyone he is world famous, if you’re 7.

Andy was born in the same year that England won the football world cup. He is married to Louise and they have two teenage children as well as an assortment of pets (dogs and pigs mostly). Andy has done numerous TV and radio appearances. He has also set up the hugely successful 2%ers club, the UK’s first, foremost and…err…only society for happy people.

His ambition is to be able to surf, brilliantly!
